Shuffle your 'on repeat' playlist and post the first ten tracks, then tag ten people
I was tagged by @heresluck!
I don’t really have an “on repeat” playlist, so I threw together my different favorite playlists (mostly sorted by vibe, emotion, or which fandom I associate with which songs) and shuffled them into a giant “list of bangers to belt in the car.” I skipped repeated artists (look, Ani DiFranco’s late 90s-early 00’s run was *formative*)
(1) Because the Night (Live MTV Unplugged) - 10,000 Maniacs
(2) Parachute (Serbian Ghenea mix) - Ingrid Michaelson
(3) Darkness, Darkness - Richard Shindell
(4) Hail Mary Shy of Redemption- Eddie From Ohio
(5) Pick Yer Nose - Ani Difranco
(6) When I Go - Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer
(7) Ladder - Joan Osborne
(8) You Gotta Be - Des’ree
(9) Pilentze Pee (Pilentze Sings) - Bulgarian Women’s Chorus
(10) Scarborough Fair - The King’s Singers ft. Manuel Barrueco
I feel 2000s pop is underrepresented in this sample, so please allow the additions of the first two that shuffled up:
(11) Sober - P!nk
(12) If I Were a Boy - Beyoncé
The most played non-Hamilton musical on my iPhone is either the 2009 Idina Menzel/Josh Groban CHESS or the 1998 OST for THE PRINCE OF EGYPT. That feels representative.
The most played classical piece is the 1955 version of Glenn Gould playing Bach’s Goldberg Variations, which is directly wired to affect my nervous system like Valium.
If you have noticed that I haven’t listened to much new music, well spotted! @heresluck and @kouredios are working on me, as are a couple of other friends, but I have been remiss about putting together new playlists, as I have spent most of the last two years listening to audiobooks (especially the Murderbot Diaries and the Goblin Emperor books).
Tagging @megastoat, @cincoseis, @white-throated-packrat, @fremedon, @agentreynard, @dsudis , @changingthingslikeleaves, @bgoodg and @cereta if they’ve thus far escaped being tagged by someone else and would like to play. But anyone is welcome!

for @steddie-week day 3 | long (and a little bit of mutual pining but the kind when they're literally dating which i think is even more pathetic)
tags: modern day, famous au, actor!steve, rockstar!eddie
Eddie stayed longer than he should have.
He was supposed to leave Chicago with the rest of the band yesterday after their show at Credit Union 1 – opening night for a year-long national tour.
Eddie didn’t leave yesterday though. Instead, he insisted on spending one last night with Steve, one last morning pretending like they would actually get up and go to that breakfast spot they like even though they both knew they’d be spending the time wrapped up together in their bed, in the home they share, refusing to disentangle themselves until they had no other choice.
No other choice meant Eddie waited so long to leave that he ended up on a flight which would get him into Ohio with barely enough time to make it to the venue in Cincinnati before showtime (and he was missing soundcheck completely – sorta shot himself in the foot with that one, in Steve's opinion, though he won’t be caught complaining).
He won’t be caught doing anything – not publicly, anyway.
Steve and Eddie’s relationship is kind of in the halfway-stage between secret and private, where Steve posts vague, faceless photos of the two of them every now and then but still deflects questions about his romantic life during interviews because – look. He and Eddie are both at weird high-points in their careers at the moment, and that means there’s a lot of eyes on them whether they like it or not. Steve had a public relationship turn sour years ago and there is no way in hell he’s letting it happen again.
Not with Eddie. Not when it counts.
There are speculations, obviously (and after Steve dropped Eddie off at O'Hare, he posted a photo of the Kiss n’ Fly sign to his IG story with the caption i hate this place :( – mostly for his own amusement at the specific way his notifications implode afterward), and they’ll probably get around to an official hard-launch someday, but for now Steve likes that they’re keeping things to themselves, especially when they don’t get to make that choice with much else.
Steve gets a just landed text from Eddie a few hours after he boarded his plane.
(Steve knew. He’d been tracking the flight).
Before he could respond, Eddie added, miss you so fn much
i miss you too, Steve texted back, and before either of them could wallow in it too much, he sent, gonna make it on time?
probably, Eddie answered. Then, getting ready in the car lol
He goes quiet after that (the getting ready, presumably), which is fine.
Steve gets it.
He’s busy too. It’s why he’s not following along on Eddie’s tour like some glorified groupie, and it’s not like the distance is anything new. On the contrary, it’s been an element of their relationship since they met at an awards show after-party four years ago. It’s more that this time around, they were supposed to only have four-and-a-half weeks together before Steve headed off on a press tour for the movie he filmed last year, but then that got pushed out a bit further, and so that four-and-a-half weeks together turned into a glorious nine, the longest Steve and Eddie’s calendars had ever been aligned without some serious planning beforehand.
He just got used to it, Steve supposes.
He got used to having Eddie around all the time, under his fingertips, under his skin. He got used to saying goodnight in person, in their bed together instead of over phone lines, got used to waking up in Eddie's arms and hearing sweet nothings whispered in his ear rather than reading the texts Eddie would leave for him to wake up to when they were apart.
He'll adjust just like he always does, and the worst part will be over tomorrow morning – that moment right between sleep and wake when Steve will realize Eddie isn’t in their bed with him.
Like it or not, the distance is their normal and they make it work (except it’s not even making it work, because it’s not like that. Any situation, any set of circumstances will work without question because it’s Eddie).
The start time for the Cincinnati show comes and goes. A few minutes into the opening act and while Steve is mindlessly flitting between Instagram and TikTok waiting for the algorithm to fill his feed with clips from the concert (ones of Eddie, preferably), his screen lights up with a call.
“Hey,” he says the second he slams his thumb on the green accept button.
“Hey,” Eddie replied, his tone nothing short of grim.
“You geared up for the show?” Steve asked.
“No,” Eddie answered, “I’m quitting.”
Steve rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, okay.”
“I need you to come tuck my pockets in,” Eddie said, and it’s a goddamn wonder Steve didn’t break down then and there, because Eddie always managed to tug his pants on in a way that made the front pockets stick out just a bit, and throughout their years together Steve had gotten into the habit of tucking them back in for him, squeezing Eddie’s hips a little when he was done and pulling him in for a kiss.
“Yeah,” Steve manages a wet laugh, “I – fuck, man, I wish I was there to tuck them in for you.”
“I want you here so bad, Steve," Eddie says, "I really, really miss you."
“I miss you too,” Steve nodded, even though miss isn't a big enough word for the homesick feeling in his chest, “Only a week until the Indy show though. And I’m coming with you for the Michigan one after.”
“Yeah,” Eddie replied, and if he sounded a little morose about it, Steve was right there with him. Sure, it’s a comfort knowing he’ll be seeing Eddie again so soon, but when those two days are over…yeah, it’s gonna be a long goddamn while until next time, because Eddie will be playing the Midwest while Steve’s press tour is mostly on the East Coast this time around, and after that he heads up into Vancouver to shoot a period drama mini-series while Eddie plays the southern half of the US, and then…well, Steve could keep going. They’re both taking a short break for the holidays, but that and the rare weekend one of them can fly out to the other is about it for the foreseeable future.
Which, yeah, Steve loves acting, loves that he gets to make a whole career out of it, and he knows that Eddie feels the same way about his music, but…the love he has for Eddie definitely edges out the rest of it – enough that he feels the distance between him like a dull, ever-present ache whenever they’re apart.
Eddie only ends their call when his manager practically has to yank the phone out of his hand and shove him onstage, and then Steve settles back into bed, back into scrolling mindlessly on his phone waiting for his finely-tuned algorithms to do their jobs.
Sure enough, it takes less than thirty minutes for Steve’s FYP to start showing him TikToks from Eddie’s show, and amidst all the hair and leather and silver chains and chunky rings and eyeliner and manic energy, Steve sees something else, something that has the hurt of missing Eddie increasing ten-fold, something that has him seriously considering taking an ax to all his contracts and his career and his livelihood and getting on the next plane to Cincinnati.
Eddie left his pockets untucked.

thinking about oldman yaoi steddie like—
trucker eddie picks up drifter steve at a pit stop some where in the middle of cornfield ohio. they've both had pretty rough lives, but eddie's a softy and when a pretty guy (despite his ragged appearance) flashes him a smile and says "hey handsome, got room for one more?" eddie lets him up in the passenger seat
a hundred miles later, eddie loses him and the last $10 out of his wallet, but that's okay. to be expected really and steve was pleasant company for a while. he doesn't think he'll ever see steve again.
except that he does, nearly half a year later, and eddie recognizes steve where he's sitting outside a truck stop in new mexico. steve obviously recognizes him too by the way he's carefully not looking at eddie. still, eddie buys two sandwiches and drops one in steve's lap before he heads over to the well-graffied picnic table outside the gas station. it takes a moment, but steve follows, sits across from him.
"i don't want any trouble," he says, warily placing his sandwich in the middle of the table, like an offering if eddie wants to take it back.
"no trouble to be had," eddie tells him, and slides it right back.
they eat in silence after that, and when steve's done, eddie asks if he needs a ride anywhere.
he drops steve off near atlanta this time, sighing when steve refuses to take any money but leaving him with a number to Eddie's trailer if he ever needs it. eddie doesn't take much time off, so he's rarely there, but steve takes the little paper from eddie almost reverently all the same. if he calls, he never leaves a message, and he never calls when eddie's home.
so they don't see each other for maybe a year this time, until one day eddie's passing through tennessee and the roads are wet and icy and there's steve again outside another truck stop. he looks at eddie with wide eyes, like a man that hasn't seen a lot of luck in his life and whispers, "i never thought i'd see you again."
and eddie asks "it's almost christmas time. you might as well come on home with me."
"i don't want to cause trouble with your family."
"no family to trouble," eddie tells him seriously.
so he brings steve home, and they eat frozen pizza for christmas dinner and drink cheap beer for new years. eddie gets called out on the road again, but he leaves steve at home. he calls the first night and steve's still there. and the next night, and the next. and when he's next in hawkins, steve is waiting for him on the porch and eddie thinks he must be mirroring eddie's shock, the two of them surprised that steve's still there.
steve's still there though, 5 years, 10 years, 20 years later, long after eddie's retired from trucking. they got a little RV now and a dog and they roam far and wide, but always together

Promise Me Just One More Night
Written for the @steddieangstyaugust prompt “‘Please, stay?’” | wc: 1,248 | rated: M | cw: references to sexual content | tags: established relationship, moving away, last night together, hopeful ending | title from “If You Leave” by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark
———
It feels a little pathetic, how quickly Steve gives in and begs. They’re both lying in Steve’s bed, still breathing heavily, damp with sweat and come (and maybe some tears), and he can’t stop thinking that this might be the last time he gets to touch Eddie like this. He whispers, “Please, stay?” without lifting his head from Eddie’s chest, too cowardly to look him in the eye.
“Steve,” Eddie sighs, like he’s about to explain again. Like Steve is just some little kid who doesn’t understand that sometimes people have to go away.
Steve knows damn well that nobody is going to stick around for him. He accepted that a long time ago. But Eddie had wormed his way into his heart over the summer and it made him start to think that maybe, just this once, someone would want to stay.
“Sorry, it’s stupid, forget I said anything,” Steve mumbles into Eddie’s skin. He keeps his gaze fixed on the tattoo just in front of his face, memorizing it like he’s tried to memorize every inch of Eddie in the past week.
Eddie slides a hand into Steve’s hair, carding through the strands with a tenderness they hardly had any time to explore. It sounds like an apology when he says, “You know why I have to go.”
He does, but that doesn’t stop the tears from burning in his eyes. “Yeah, but California?” His voice cracks a little. “That’s, like, as far as you can get without leaving the country.”
“Wayne’s got some friends out there who have a job for him. For both of us.”
“There are closer jobs. Like, in Ohio,” Steve grumbles. He’s probably proving Eddie right, acting like a child.
Eddie puts on a post British accent. “Alas, Lord Harrington, I need to take the sea air for my health. You know I have such a delicate constitution.”
Steve isn’t completely sure why that sets him off. Maybe it’s the reminder of how close he came to losing Eddie, how Eddie’s still recovering from all the damage the demobats did to him. But it’s probably because that stupid voice is the perfect example of how goofy and dramatic Eddie can be, and that just makes Steve miss him even more.
He’s not even gone yet and Steve already misses him so much he can’t stand it.
Eddie has to feel the tears dripping onto his chest, the shake of Steve’s shoulders where his arm drapes around his back. Steve’s not even being particularly quiet, so he can definitely hear him. But Eddie just holds Steve close and rubs a hand up and down his back while he cries.
“I’m gonna call you, like, every day. You’re gonna get sick of me. Like, the sound of my voice will make you wanna puke,” Eddie croons. The soft lilt of his voice is such a contrast to the words he’s saying that Steve coughs out a laugh despite himself.
“I don’t think you can afford the long distance charges,” he croaks. “Unless this new job is really good.”
“Okay, so you can call me instead,” Eddie says easily.
Steve sniffles. “Maybe I will. Then you’ll get sick of me.”
Eddie squeezes him more tightly and cranes his neck to kiss the top of Steve’s head. “Never gonna happen.”
“Okay. Just make sure you have your own phone in your bedroom so Wayne doesn’t catch you jacking off.”
He laughs so loud it almost hurts Steve’s ears. “You’re really something, Steve,” he says fondly. Steve can hear his smile.
“I love you, too.” The words slip out before Steve’s brain can catch up with his heart, but he doesn’t regret saying them until Eddie freezes beneath him. “You don’t have to say it back or anything,” he rushes to clarify, “but I wanted to tell you while we’re in the same room instead of, like, opposite sides of the country.”
Eddie wiggles until Steve rolls onto the bed next to him. They’re face to face now, so Steve can see the shine in Eddie’s eyes, even in the dark of his bedroom. “Say it again.”
“I love you.” Steve doesn’t hesitate.
His expression goes from tense to almost manic, a huge grin spreading across his face. “I love you, too.”
Eddie is watching him so intently that Steve starts to feel self-conscious. He’s sure his eyes are all red and his hair is messed up from Eddie’s hands and he’s probably making a weird face that’s some previously-unknown combination of joy and heartbreak. And Eddie’s looking at him like he’s the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen, like he’s proud to love him and he doesn’t want to leave but he has to and–
Steve is crying again. It’s worse when Eddie can see his face turning splotchy, when Steve can see how Eddie’s eyes go soft and frowny. He tries to solve both of those problems by covering his face with one of his hands, but Eddie catches his wrist and holds it against his chest. Shit, now Steve’s lip is wobbling. He closes his eyes against tears and embarrassment alike.
“Hey. You don't have to look at me but I hope you’ll listen.” Eddie pauses until Steve nods, eyes still squeezed shut. “I love you whether I’m here or in California. I’ll still think about you every day. I’ll wonder what you’re having for lunch and what you’re wearing and what movie you’re gonna pick for movie night with the kids. Yeah, it’s gonna suck that I can’t see you, or touch you, but I don’t just want you for your hot bod. You know that, right?”
“Yeah.” Steve’s voice is small and watery.
“The kids will keep you busy when school starts and the time will fly by. Maybe you can come visit at Christmas?”
Steve has to open his eyes when Eddie sounds that shy and uncertain. “I’ll visit as much as you want. What’s the next holiday, Arbor Day?”
“I think you mean Labor Day.” Eddie has perfected the art of laughing at Steve with a completely straight face.
“Shut up. Labor Day, National Lobster Day, it doesn’t matter. Any excuse to come see you.” He takes Eddie’s face in his hands and kisses him tenderly.
Eddie’s mouth is wet and red when he pulls away to look at Steve’s alarm clock. He groans. “Wayne wants to leave first thing in the morning.”
“Do you think he’d mind if you spend the night here? I know you’d have to wake up earlier, but–”
“He won’t care.” Eddie nuzzles his nose against Steve’s face. He doesn’t say what they’re both thinking, that this is their last night together for the foreseeable future and they’re gonna make the most of it.
Steve sighs. “Then stay. Please.”
They’re silent while they go about their nightly routines, trading spots in front of the bathroom sink while they brush their teeth and Steve washes his face. They settle back into bed on the sides they naturally claimed weeks ago and pull each other close. The alarm is set for an obscenely early hour and it’s not nearly enough time, but Steve tries not to think about it for now. He just lets Eddie hold him, tells him goodnight and I love you and soaks it in when Eddie says it back.
Maybe once he can be sure all of this Upside Down shit is over, he’ll need a change of scenery. California sounds nice.

People Pleaser Steve
Steve is a people pleaser. Years of living with his parents and their demeaning stares and harsh words have destroyed his sense of self preservation.
"Keep Eye Contact, Steven," his mother would say. "Stop Complaining, You need to make our guest Comfortable." His father would say. Until the age of ten all Steve got was criticism. Constant reminders on how to behave perfectly and how to appease his parents.
The morning they decided he was old enough to stay home himself, coincidentally on his 10th birthday, they packed up and started renting an apartment in Chicago to better monitor their Business. They sent him money for food, got him a bike so he could go to school, they even sent a few extra 20s every other month so he could get new clothes as he grew.
Of course, Steve never complained. This was how he kept the peace, how he avoided the cold glare from his parents.
The pattern continued into adulthood, Steve practically raised himself for the last 8 years of his childhood, he only saw his parents when they needed him.
When he (accidently) became the mother of the nerdiest bunch of kids in Hawkins, he made himself a promise, No matter what he'd be there. Every recital, every birthday party, every holiday, and every time they needed a ride; he was there.
When Christmas came around after everything had happened, after Max had recovered and Eddie's wounds had healed perfectly, he decided he would make it the best Christmas they'd ever seen. Just to make them happy.
He decorated the entire house, made enough food to feed his small football team of a group, he got so many presents for everyone that he had to skip out on food three days a week for two months just because he wanted it to be perfect.
The kids came over on Christmas Eve night to spend the night together, slept in sleeping bags he bought special for them. Eddie came to help wrangle the crazies until Robin got back from visiting her grandparents in Ohio.
They ate like they were starving or like it was their last meal. All except Steve, who was too afraid to overstep or take away from someone else to even try one of the many kinds of food he made.
The games died down and the food was gone by midnight. The kids slept peacefully in their sleeping bags. Steve let out a small sigh, a smile on his face as he stood and took empty platters and plates to the kitchen.
He washed the dishes in silence, a baggy crew neck sweater replacing his usual polos. He knew if he wore them the others would notice he had lost weight and he didn't want to inconvenience them. It was rude to burden others with your problems. He honestly thought he had gotten away with it until a familiar Metal head guided him to the kitchen table.
"Ok Big boy, This isn't working for me," He said in a soft voice.
Steve immediately looked up, "I'm sorry, it won't happen again," he whispered, not even sure what he did.
Eddie sighs and says, "Steve, You think you're hiding it so well but you aren't. You take care of everyone and everything all of the time. Let me take care of you."
Steve couldn't move, couldn't respond, How Was he supposed to behave? He didn't know so he merely nodded.
Eddie smiled and immediately made Steve a bowl of cereal, something small and quiet. When he was positive Steve would eat it, he finished the dishes for him.
Steve looked so beat down and tired, the bags under his eyes told so much and Eddie knew that from now on he would do Everything to keep them away.
He took the empty bowl and washed it before walking over to Steve. "I know it's a bit early but...I got you something," he whispers, pulling out a small box from his back pocket.
It was a light blue box with a thin red ribbon and white trim. Steve's thin fingers removed the lid to find a locket in the shape of a guitar pick.
Inside there were two pictures, one with the kids, and one with Steve and Eddie. It was the picture from when Eddie was discharged, the day Steve agreed to get treatment for his wounds. Eddie's arm is around Steve's shoulders, it's the only picture in the world with Steve's Real smile. His eyes swelled with tears. It's the only gift he's gotten since he was 10, since his parents left to run their company, since Everything.
"Shit I didn't mean to make you cry again! I just-" Eddie is cut off with the tightest hug he's ever gotten.
"It's Perfect," Steve whispers.
He's met with calloused hands on the back of his head, gently massaging his scalp.
"Merry Christmas, Harrington."
"Merry Christmas, Munson."

——
you looked at yourself in the mirror, admiring your new outfit... leopard print pants with a black corset top, your hair teased and hair sprayed to the gods, and your usual makeup, only with a little extra here and there
"hey babe we should probably get a move on cause-" eddie stopped in front of the bathroom door, giving you a look up and down and finishing with a wolf whistle
"jesus" he breathed out, leaning on the door, staring at your outfit causing a small blush to creep up on your face
"you like?" you asked sheepishly, already knowing his answer
you often didn't wear scandalous outfits like this, opting for the most basic t shirt, jeans, and your lived in reeboks that never got a day off but now that you and eddie were out of hawkins for the week as corroded coffin were playing shows at the sunset strip in LA, you figured you'd get less stares wearing an outfit like this
"i love" he purred, stalking closer before locking his lips with yours into a passionate kiss, his hands gently cradling your face as his tongue slipped into your mouth and your hands snaked up to his neck
he started trailing down your exposed neck, and you smiled, knowing what he wanted to do instead of heading to this party gareth heard about and was very persistent in everyone attending, hearing rumors of other rock gods showing up
"eds, as much as i know you'd rather stay here and do this, we really have to get going" you giggled, and he stopped kissing, leaning his head on your shoulder
"do we have to?" he mumbled, his voice vibrating into your chest
"gareth wants the whole band to go with just incase anyone cool happens, hey who knows maybe you'll run into mick mars or kirk hammett" you laughed
eddie moved his face to meet yours, his arms wrapping around you and pulling you in, almost like he'd lose you if he let you go
"already checked, metallica is playing in ohio tonight so slim to none chance I'll see kirk" he said, leaning in for one last kiss before he unwillingly pulled away, walking over to his bag and slipping on a old cut up band shirt and fixing his studded belt
"eddie" you groaned, checking yourself one last time in the hotel mirror, seeing your lipstick smudged
"what" he replied with the same annoyed tone you had
"you ruined my lipstick" and he let out a small laugh
——
the car ride from the hotel to a massive mansion was fairly short, and you, along with the rest of corroded coffin, stumbled out of the car onto the driveway that you were sure could fit 10 of you and eddie's shared apartment
the music from the house was blasting and you wish you knew half these people, or whos house this even was but alas, you were just as clueless as the boys as you walked into the mansion
people were everywhere, you couldn't walk more than 2 feet without seeing a drink or bottle of alcohol, music was blaring, the lights were nice, adding to the ambience of a party
eddie grabbed your hand, lacing together your fingers as he motioned a "come on" and you followed, leaving jeff, dougie, and gareth to themselves
you and eddie walked to the giant kitchen, where you heard a voice yell "oh my god, are you eddie munson?" eddie immediately turned to where the voice came from, seeing tommy lee and nikki sixx leaning against a table, drinks in their hands
eddie looked at you with wide eyes, suppressing a giant smile which showed a mix of "oh my god they know who i am" and "oh my god they know who I am"
"go" you whispered, lightly nudging your boyfriend towards the two rockstars
he let go of your hand and headed towards them, and they greeted eddie like they were old friends even though they'd never met before in their lives
they immediately started into a conversation, you only heard bits and pieces but it was all shop talk about guitars solos, tour dates, etc.
you took this time to get a drink, walking deeper into the kitchen
you saw an opened pack of beers, and grabbed one out, opening it on the side of the counter (a helpful trick eddie taught you a few years back), and took a few sips, admiring the amount of people at this party and listening to the songs that were playing in the background, barely heard over the amount of people talking
you went to take another sip when you felt a presence next to you, and you look to your left to see none other than nikki sixx
dumbfounded that your old celebrity crush of a few years was standing next to you, you stuttered out a hello and he smiled
"y/n... right?" he asked and you nodded, a taken aback and confused look writing onto your face as he held his hand out to shake yours
"eddie told tommy and i about you just now, thought i'd come say hello" he said with a smile, leaning against the counter and inched closer
"well hello," you said, however, your voice moved faster than your brain processed, and it came out more flirtatious than you intended
maybe it was the subconscious part of your brain that was excited the guy you fantasized about before you met your boyfriend was in front of you, but now all you could think of now was showing him you weren't interested and that eddie was all you cared about
"so eddie's a pretty cool guy.." he said and you looked over at eddie who was engaged deep in a conversation with tommy, a drink in both their hands
you looked back at nikki who took a swig out of a jack daniels bottle he held in his left hand
"yeah, he's so cool i've been with him almost 4 years" you joked, awkwardly taking a sip from your beer
"you ever think about expanding your horizons?" he asked, the flirtiness in his voice increasing
"expanding to what?" you laughed, brushing off the awkwardness and hoping your heart rate would slow down
"to the room upstairs, there's a perfect little balcony overlooking the beach where no one can hear us...." he leaned in closer, his breath hot on your neck
"or see us... me fucking you senseless, my grip on your waist as my thick cock pumping in your tight little pussy, making you scream my name" he finished, leaving a hot, open mouth kiss on your neck under your ear
you felt a few shivers go down your spine, along with heat traveling to your core as a blush spread across your cheeks as you turned to face him
if this was a few years ago, before you met eddie, you wouldn't care that you'd be just another girl in the millions of his roster, you'd be halfway naked in the kitchen on your knees by now
but it wasn't a few years ago, this was now and even though you had the one man you had the biggest crush on literally beginning to have sex with you, but you also was dating someone you had an even bigger crush on
"i- i can't" you stuttered out, looking up at eddie and moving alway from the grip he had around your waist
it was like eddie could read your mind cause he turned around to see you with nikki, and him and tommy came sauntering over
eddie immediate wrapped an arm around you, pressing against your back and pulling you close, causing nikki to stand up straighter next to tommy
"what were you two chatting about?" eddie asked with a smile and nikki shrugged
"not much, just getting to know one another" nikki said, sending you a wink
"holy shit you're mötley crüe" you heard jeff say as him, gareth, and dougie walked up to tommy and nikki
"well half, you guys must be the rest of corroded coffin, right?" tommy asked, extending his hand to fist bump the boys and they all nodded excitedly
"hey while we're all here, let's talk tour dates, we've seen a show or two, and we need an opener" tommy said, extending an arm around nikki and gareth, walking off to where there was an opening on one of the couches, leaving you and eddie by yourselves in the kitchen
you turned around to look at his face, gently holding it with your hand as his arms wrapped around your waist
you kissed him gently and he kissed back, eventually pulling away with a smile
"uh, i just wanted to tell you, nikki hit on me... just now... when you were talking to tommy..." you told him
"oh wow..." he said, trailing off, looking over at nikki then back at you
"well, they always say don't leave your girlfriend alone around motley crue... i guess that actually is true" he chuckled
"yeah, but... he did tell me about this private room upstairs, incase you feel a little jealous and want to take it out on me" your voice again travelled faster than your brain as eddie's eyes darker, a smirk crawling up his face over his lips
"well what did he say exactly?" eddie asked, pulling you in closer and slowly moving his hand down your lower back
"something about screaming his name while he's fucking my tight little pussy-" you cut yourself off, kissing eddie
he pulled away, your foreheads touching
"did he get you all worked up? huh pretty girl?" he asked, staring to move his hips against yours and you whimpered out a yes when he suddenly stopped his movements
"i can't have you hot and horny for some other guy now can we? i guess i have to show you who can make you feel really good not some doped up rockstar who can’t please you the way i can..." he said again
you just nodded at him, staring, feeling like if you take your eyes off him, you wouldn’t get your release
“let’s take this upstairs, shall we?” he asked, extending one hand to yours and his other to one of the bottles of alcohol sitting on the counter opposite of him
you started to head upstairs when mick mars walked up to the two of you, stopping your path upstairs
“hey eddie, right? nikki was telling me all about you!” he said enthusiastically
“later mars, i gotta please my girl” eddie said in a rush, and the two of you ran upstairs to the bedroom

Missed | Ethan Edwards x Fem!reader
Tumblr media
Warnings: language, smut? Breeding kinks (spitting, slapping, and pet names),
Summary: ethan takes you back home, and you guys celebrate the new coming summer season with eachother before you left for Utah.
💭: first time writing for ethan!!!
NOT PROOF READ
── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
Finals are starting, summers kicking in. Graduation is coming.
Spring time sucks. Rainfall everyday, hot humid nights, warm bodies laying next to another.
Warm air heating my neck as I sit in his bed.
Ethan’s massive legs take a hold over my hips. Lying over me, his whole body rests ontip of me. He seems completely relaxed and comfortable, I don’t move for his sake.
No blankets needed, fans on settting five, cold air blowing at me, windows are open, the dorm room provided by campus is so smalll, crammed, hot. Mark shares one with Ethan, and I of course as Ethan’s girlfriend have to hear both of them snore.
I reach my hand out to find the top of eddys headboard. I grab my AirPods and set them in my ear. I blast Ethan’s song he plays everytime we hangout.
I just told Ethan that I’ll be going to Utah for a week with my family, if he wanted, he is more than welcome to come. Of course, he said no.
After school ends fully, I won’t see him. I’m sure he’ll be out in Ohio with the rest of the umich team. Every morning when I sleepover in the boys room, Phil sends me a text asking if mark and Ethan are awake.
Everytime, it’s “no.”
Phil always works out with these two, they go to the yost training center, and I normally go out with Farah and Khi.
I move Ethan’s arm over my shoulder so I can breathe easier, he moves his head and grunts in pain.
“Ow. Fuck, y/n. My arm. My back. Shit- fuc- ow!” Ethan moans out. He rubs his eyes and kissed me on my cheek. The song replays and replays and replays.
“Is that Glory box? Give me a side.” Ethan takes an AirPod out of my ear, he stuffs it into his fitting ear and listens to our sex song.
He lays on his belly and I get up to straddle over him. On my knuckles I rub out his back. Apparently, I was poking his back all night with my knee. Wrong.
It’s 7:38, mark and Farah are still sleeping. Ethan rolls over and just stand up on his bed. Letting cool air take my body. Ethan grabs my hand, helping me down his bed. Swiftly, he stuff his head into a shirt.
I wear a black sports bra and pink shorts from lululemon. Matching Eddy. He wears this hot pick shirt, and black shorts. To cover his bad bed head he sets a hat over his head and he walks me to me car.
I have a house that I share with my friends, Hara, Piper and Elly. Ethan drives me in my car back to my house. We arrive, taking my hand Ethan walks me to my door. I unlock the front door with my keys and head inside. Ethan isn’t supposed to be around anymore, because he got into it with Pipers boyfriend- Ryan, he goes to MSU.
I sneak Ethan upstairs into my bathroom. He lays on my bed while I brush my teeth and he watches me, we talk while I get my hair ready for the day.
“Do you want to shower?” He asks me, he gets up, walking towards me. Pressing his shaft into my hips. Connections like a puzzle. I need him with me right here and right now.
Without hesitation he takes me and turns me around. He walks towards the shower and turns it to burning hot water.
“You know I prefer it cold when we fuck.” I whine. I kiss him with my fresh breath.
Letting the water heat up I tell him to brush his teeth, get his hair ready for me to massage in the shower after we have fun.
“Y/n! You home?” Hara yells for me as she walks into my room. She lends a knock into my door as she stands next to my closet door. Looking into the bathroom she said she saw my car outside and was wondering if I made it home.
“Oh, hey dev.” Hara nods over at Ethan.
“Looking good H. How’s Will doing?” Ethan making conversation as he looks at himself in the mirror. He fixes up his hair, brushing through it.
“You look yummy.” I say whispering into his ear. I stand on my tiptoes, letting me heart set into my stomach. “Hey Ra-ra, can you grab me a coffee and a sandwich from down the street? I’ll give you money.” I ask Hara.
I’m starving.
Starving for Ethan, and actual food.
The steam covers the mirror and hara leaves to grab my food. Ethan locks the door of my bedroom and my bathroom. He throws his clothes off. He slips his boxers off. I can see his hard cock. I’m not sure what had him turned on, but he’s getting me horny.
I’m his, he’s mine.
“Turn.” He instructed me. I turn around. “Arms.”
I lift my arms. Standing in T position, Ethan slides my bra off, the sports bra off, he slowly sets his hand into my shorts. Sliding them off, he seees I’ve gone commando. No thong, nothing under.
Bare skin, body to body.
His brown hair, Al over my shoulders. Ethan’s marks all over my shoulders.
Hickeys, screams, pleasure, and release.
He takes me into the shower. The hot water hits my hair, my body jolts up in energy. Ethan takes my hand and places it onto his lower abdomen. Just above his cock, that slapped against his torso, my hand slips down onto his balls as I lower myself into my knees.
Ethan leans back onto the shower walls, my head leans back, looking up, I get excited myself.
Ethan grips ibto my hair. My head feeling the pressure of his hold, I rest my hands onto his cock. I kick my lips to give myself to prepare.
I lick the tip of Ethan, and he hits his head against the wall, he lifts his hips towards my mouth. I shoved half of his dick into my mouth.
I suck, I lick, I jerk.
Taking my empty left hand and start massaging his balls, whispering his name. Ethan groans and smiles. Smirks. Laugh. My right hand holding into his other half of his cock. In a swift motion I jerk him off and lick the tip.
Letting him cum into my mouth I lift his cock up. After letting him release into me, I stand up, kissing him I use my tounge to distribute his cum back into his mouth.
His swallows his substance. Taking me, he grips into my hips, dipping me in the shower. He kisses me from my neck down to my knees. I feel his warm spit all over my body. The shower pricks at my feet. The water hits my ass, Ethan picks me up.
He holds me up and he pushes me against the wall. He sticks his hard cock inside of me. The water no longer hits me, but reaches his back. He groans in the disbelief. Still as ethan lifts me, he holds me up, giving me time to take him in.
“oh my gid. You feel so good.” He doesn’t stop his movement. He lowers me down to the ground. My toes touch the wet floor of the shower.
He grunts as he pulls out. I look down to the ground, he cummed a second time. I still need to be relaxed.
Ethan sits me down on the ledge of my shower that holds my shampoo and conditioner. I can feel the cold of the tile on my ass. Ethan spits out water from the shower head all over me. He sets me back. My legs over his shoulders. He sicks his penis inside of me.
“Too bi-“ I exasperated as I feel him inside of me. He thrusted one time and fitted everything inside. I look down to his chest, his abs contract every time he hits my bottom. He takes one of my breast and holds it in his hands while he takes his motions smoothly. Not stopping ethan lifts his head back.
“You’ve taken it before princess.” Ethan takes my nipple and twists it between his index finger and thumb. I feel my release coming.
“Baby. I’m coming.” I yell out. I’m sure our neighbors can hear us.
He bangs his hand above me on the wall. He thrusts faster, and harder.
“Keep it in.”
“You’re such a slut for me.”
“Whore”.
~
After our fun, I sit Ethan down on the ledge he fucjed me on. I washed his hair. And I finished cleaning myself up. Ethan runs out of the shower to grab us a towel. He comes back dry. I turn the knob off.
The water stops. “You’re gonna miss me when I leave!” I yell out as he opens the door to the shower.
He gives me the towel he used to dry off. He smiles as he walks me back to the bed. I wrapped my hair in the towel and I sit dry, in the bed. Waiting for ethan to join.
“I have to go.” He said.
Um, hell no.
“No, I’m leaving next week. You aren’t leaving to go play on your X box or whatever you have.” I fight with him.
“No I have to go because the snobs car is outside.” He said as he sliddd in his clothes.
The “snob” is that guy from MSU that Piper is dating.
“And no, I’m not going to miss you. After today it’ll feel like you’ll be with me all day everyday.” He walks out of my room.
Hara walks into my room with my coffee and sandwich. “Where is he going? I thigh you guys were having fun. I mean it sounded like it.” She mentioned.
Dman.
“No he had to leave. And yeah, we had fun.” I laughed.
~
I left for Utah. It’s been two days since I’ve arrived. Ethan’s sent me texts like all day.
“I miss you so much.”
“You should leave and come to me.”
“I should just suprise you one day.”
~
I walk out of my burning bedroom door.
Summer is finally here. My mom called me, telling me something special came for me. Weird.
I see my brown haired boy. I run into his arms.
“I’ve missed you.” He wishers into my ear. “Shower later?” He laughs as he takes me down from our hug.
he missed me.

For the au game: Hellcheer adopting au. Maybe a cousin of Chrissy's or someone?
my immediate thought with this is:
Eddie and Chrissy have been together for a few years – so both still early-mid 20s. Eddie's music career is just starting to take off, and he's got a tour lined up in three or four weeks with the band to open for a big metal band for the next six months. Chrissy's going with him, ofc. They're probably living in California.
He gets a call from the state of Ohio informing him that his older brother passed away in a car accident, leaving behind a four-year-old daughter. Eddie didn't even know he had an older brother, but as the closest living relative (not in jail, like the father they apparently shared) he was the next of kin. If they didn't take her, she'd go into the system. Which was bullshit for any kid to deal with, Eddie would know.
Eddie mostly wants nothing to do with it, but Chrissy obviously won't let him walk away. They fly out to Ohio to meet her.
Her name is Elodie. She's quiet and shy, and she has ginormous blue eyes and crazy brown curls. She somehow looks just like Chrissy, which is insane. But then they see pictures of Eddie's older brother and his wife, and the wife kinda looks like Chrissy, and Eddie wonders if Munson men just have a type.
Obviously they take her back to California. Start to get her adjusted. Chrissy skips the first leg of the tour to get Elodie settled, and Eddie can't decide how he feels about the situation whatsoever. Like, isn't he supposed to be instantly attached or something? Then they join him on tour, and Chrissy buys Elodie those silly giant noise-blocking headphones, and the kid looks absolutely starstruck when she watches Eddie perform, and Eddie's kinda starstruck right back because damn. That's his family, isn't it?
send me an AU and I'll make up five facts about it!

The Graveyard Shift - Part 2
They are heading northwest from their last gig in Cincinnati. The highrise of the city center quickly makes way for long stretches of road until the city is nothing more than a bunch of lights in the rearview mirror.
The guys are giddy, strung up from another good show—another good hunt. Eddie is happy to leave Ohio behind; to be returning to his home ground of Indiana.
True, the state itself isn’t much to look at, but in the darkness of the night, he doesn’t care much for a scenic view.
When was the last time he laid his eyes on the vast green fields, the rich yellow of dried wheat, or the cerulean sky? Eddie can hardly recall—it has been decades after all.
Compared to the first half of the 20th century, the 80s are a spectacle to behold. The morals are looser, the clothes more revealing, and hunting was never this easy—never this fun. Eddie likes the way he can walk around at night now, bathed in light and color like he’s living once more.
And the music is something else.
It’s hard to believe he might have missed out on this—on the leather and the smoke and the loudness of it all. The shrieking of guitars and voices that perfectly captures the chaos of the world; to instill darkness in mortals, not through death, but through music.
What a splendid age indeed.
Indianapolis shines like a beacon of light in the distance and in this new age, this time of neon lights and secondary colors, it might as well be Eden itself. It shines in darkness much more than it ever did in the light of day.
When they arrive in the city, Gareth drops him off at some gaudy hotel, and it’s their usual spiel. They stay at separate hotels, avoid suspicion, and then once their show is over, they leave again. Ditch the city and trade it for another.
Rinse and repeat, for centuries to come.
The hotel looks different from the last time Eddie stayed there a decade ago. New owners have tried to put their mark on history. Tearing down the old and replacing it with artificial plastics that seem so prevalent at this time.
It’s cute, the way they try, but few are ever remembered. Most will disappear into obscurity—just another name on a tombstone until that erodes as well.
Most, but not Eddie.
Not Corroded Coffin.
The new marble floors are laid in a checkerboard pattern—polished to such an extent that they reflect anyone who walks on them. It’s a giveaway, but Eddie doesn’t worry about that. Humans are remarkably dim; remarkably easy to fool.
Not that he minds. Eddie prefers his food a little dim.
Behind the front desk stands a boy. Eddie could smell him from outside—the smell of lifeblood and light. It matches his looks in every way. He has an easygoing charm to him.
The boy doesn’t notice him as he massages his temples and Eddie feels like a fox stalking a rabbit unaware of its impending doom.
After so many decades, it’s easy to move without sound—it’s thrilling, the way people jump, the way their eyes go wide as they grow uncomfortable.
Unconsciously they are aware that something is wrong, but humans have grown out of touch with their instincts. They push the feeling down because in this age, evil can be found in board games, books, and the wrong kind of love.
Evil comes in human form—it needs no horns or teeth or claws. It comes in clever tongues, greedy hands, and an insatiable hunger for more, m ore, m ore—
When Eddie sees the boy, he thinks goodness may persist in equal measure. It gnaws at him, the familiarity of it, but he can’t allow himself to go there—not again. It’s a specific kind of anguish. A yearning he can’t mute.
He yearns for Steve before he even learns his name.
And it sounds like a melody, the way his heart rate spikes when Eddie grabs his wrist; his scent a perfect blend of nervous curiosity and excitement, unpolluted by the stench of fear.
Eddie feels his mouth water as his nails dig into his flesh. He pulls back. He has indulged himself too much already.
Not this one. Not yet.
Around 4 AM, Eddie orders room service, and some kid with freckles shows up at his door.
Tommy
He smells like trouble—it radiates off him like perfume as his cheeks flush with expensive wine and stuffs his face with the food Eddie provides.
Call it his last supper. Eddie does have some humanity.
Eddie watches him with a lazy swirl of untouched wine in his hand. Tommy doesn’t notice he doesn’t drink. Tommy doesn’t notice much of anything.
Tommy talks.
He talks a lot and it’s all bullshit. But, fuck, if that isn’t the type of person Eddie enjoys toying with most—cocky and a little rude. They break so beautifully.
The guys have given him shit before, called his tastes fancy. And maybe they are right, just a little, because Eddie has a type.
Tommy isn’t it, but he’s close enough.
He’s sure the guys are fine with this one. Someone unreliable, who oversleeps and skips out on work. Someone who won’t be missed—not until it’s too late.
Yes, Tommy will do , Eddie reminds himself as he sinks his teeth into the boy’s neck. Tommy whimpers helplessly, somewhere between pain and pleasure. The initial resistance wears off fast as the venom fills his veins. Eddie feels his heat seep into his body and he moans against his skin; grabs the back of Tommy’s neck to pull him closer.
There’s nothing quite like blood. Nothing quite like the overwhelming pleasure of life on his tongue as Tommy’s pulse grows weaker and his skin pales.
When Eddie feels Tommy’s heart hitch he knows it’s time to stop. He pushes himself away and creates some distance as he watches. Pupils blown and white-faced, Tommy’s jaw moves helplessly for a minute or so before Eddie sees him fade.
Eddie stands up then. He hates the final spasms—hates the actual dying part, no matter how often he does it. It reminds him of himself, and how he skirted death before he became what he is now.
He moves to his window and stands in front of it. The city is alive with lights, regardless of the hour.
Reflected in the window he sees Tommy’s body give a singular violent jerk.
Death throes.
“It won’t be like last time,” Eddie whispers as he thinks of the boy named Steve.
It is morning and Robin is seated at their little breakfast table with a slice of half-eaten toast and a newspaper in front of her. The kitchen smells of bread and coffee and it instantly makes Steve relax. It’s the scent of coming home, especially now that he works night shifts. He makes himself a cup of tea and sits down next to her.
Robin takes another bite of her toast and looks at him. “Alright, spill it.”
“What?”
“You have something to tell me. I can see it in your face.”
Steve sends her a playful frown before pulling the two backstage passes from his breast pocket and sliding them toward her like they’re business cards.
Robin studies them a moment before looking back at Steve. “Remember when I said they were weirdos? That definitely extends to them backstage.” She pushes the passes back to Steve. “How did you even get this?”
Steve steals her toast and takes a bite. “Their lead singer—”
Robin snatches her toast back and pulls a face. “Dude, swallow before you talk.”
“Sorry.” Steve swallows heavily, “As I was saying, their lead singer is staying at the hotel. Tommy didn’t show up tonight so I had to pitch in on room service duty. Kinda sucked balls, but hey, I got something good out of it I guess.”
“And you were so good at pushing a cart this guy just happened to give you backstage passes?” Robin gulps her coffee and eyes him over her mug.
“So what if I was?”
“I don’t believe you.”
“Okay, fine. He invited me into his room and made me have wine with him. Happy now?”
“Steve, that’s really weird.” She frowns into her mug.
Steve fiddles with the handle of his mug. Robin is eying him intensely and she’s probably right. It’s a little weird, but she’s also overly suspicious. “He was just being nice. It was nearly morning. Maybe he felt guilty about the food.”
“Food? He ordered food at what, 5 AM?”
“Hotel guests are always weird. You don’t know half of it. This actually only classifies as mildly unusual.”
“So, what say you? Will you join me tonight?”
“There’s no talking you out of this, is there?”
“No chance.”
Robin seems to be giving in and Steve feels strangely victorious. “Okay, I’m coming with you tonight, if only because I’m pretty sure this guy has some unbecoming intentions with my sweet Steve.”
Steve laughs and takes a sip of his tea. Robin smiles back at him, tentatively.
“Highly unlikely. I’m not a girl.”
“That means nothing, Steve. Believe me.” Robin flips the newspaper to the next page and they sit in silence for a moment.
It’s a rainy morning and Robin will have to leave for class soon. Steve hates how their schedules contradict each other now. He squeezes her hand affectionately and gives her a reassuring smile.
“It’ll be fun.”
Robin smiles back, but it doesn’t reach her eyes.
“Are you really wearing that?” Robin asks him that evening.
Steve looks himself down. He’s wearing a polo and jeans. Hardly an offensive outfit. “What’s wrong with it?”
“Oh Steve, they’ll eat you alive,” she says affectionately. “Hold on.”
Robin leaves the room and Steve moves to one of the mirrors to study himself. His outfit isn’t like Eddie’s on the pamphlet, nor like the people in the record shop, but he can’t see what’s wrong with it.
“Catch.” Robin throws a black fabric ball at him and Steve turns around, just in time to get hit square in the face. He yanks it off his head and unfolds it.
“ Heart ? Isn’t it a faux pas to wear shirts of other bands?”
“I didn’t know you spoke French, monsieur Steve. Did you pick that up at that fancy hotel of yours too?” Robin is smiling at him.
Steve rolls his eyes. “It’s the cross-words okay. Now answer the question.”
“It’s fine…ish. Besides, it’s the only thing I have close to your size. It’s better than your polo, believe me.”
Steve sighs. “Fine, I’ll be right back.”
Robin is right, this isn’t his scene. Steve self-consciously tugs at the slightly too-tight shirt. He’s glad she made him change because people are indeed dressed differently here.
Steve hasn’t attended many music events. Music has always been in the background, not something he consciously paid attention to.
Corroded Coffin hits differently.
It’s the darkness and heat of the small concert hall. People are dressed in black and leather, drenched in defiance and sweat. But the ambiance is magnetic and it lures Steve in. It makes him believe he can become one with this collection of misfits as the drums pound in his head with Robin at his side. Guitars cut through him and Eddie Munson’s voice stitches him back together.
Robin sticks to his side, hands on his arm. She’s wary and Steve doesn’t understand how she’s not taken by this, by the music that sounds so much like love feels.
Robin eyes him suspiciously. Her eyebrows are knit together as she holds his face and scans his eyes. “Did you slip in some alcohol while I wasn’t looking?”
Steve swats her hands away. “Of course not. Where would I even get that?”
Steve isn’t drunk. He can’t be, but the atmosphere feels charged with it. “Just relax Rob, have fun,”
The music is loud and talking is hard. Bodies are squeezed against them from all sides as they make their way back into the crowd.
When Eddie announces their last song his eyes briefly meet Steve’s in the darkness of the crowd. And surely Eddie can’t see him, not really—it’s too dark and the stage lights are too bright. But when he hits his guitar and runs his lips against the metal grid of his microphone, Steve thinks he looks like a god come to life.
Steve is mesmerized by it. Can tear his eyes away from the way Eddie’s mouth moves over the microphone like a lover would. Steve hardly hears the music at this point. The world is faded at the edges and it feels like nothing exists except for Eddie and himself.
Eddie looks at him, and this time Steve is sure he sees him. Eddie’s eyes hold his, lips moving over the microphone as he sings his final note.
The crowd erupts in cheers and the spell is broken.
When the band moves off the podium, chaotic mumbling rises and fills the concert hall. The lights come back on and suddenly all intimacy seems gone.
Rob squeezes his arm, her eyes shooting towards the exit in signal for Steve. She pulls him along, making her way through the mass of bodies around him until she comes to a halt, so suddenly Steve almost crashes into her.
In front of her stands a bulky man dressed in a suit.
“If you’ll follow me,” he says. He doesn’t wait for an answer, but briefly turns his back, walking towards the stage rather than the exit.
Robin shoots Steve a wary look, but he ignores it, grabbing her by the wrist to pull her with him. She resists for a second before giving in.
The man leads them through the crowd to a door near the stage. He holds it open for them and beckons them to go through. The man steps past them until they arrive at another door. He holds it open again and when Steve walks through he is greeted by several other people lounging around.
They’re all girls.
Pretty girls with dark clothes and drinks in their hands—champagne flutes and elegant wine glasses. Some seem a little buzzed; somewhere between the softness of alcohol-induced relaxation and nervous anticipation.
The door falls shut behind them and the girls look up at the sound. They greet them, some with a soft ‘hi’, others with a wave. Some of them ignore them altogether.
Steve doesn’t really care. He isn’t there for them. The girls don’t seem to care either—mostly focusing on themselves or the friends they brought.
“Let's get out of here Steve,” Robin whispers in his ear. She’s glued to his side, antsy to get away, and Steve has to admit the situation feels strange. Now he’s not engulfed by the crowd the high is starting to wear off, and the atmosphere unsettles him a little.
The room is pretty barebones and all the girls are wearing VIP tags around their necks, just like them.
“Let's just get one drink, then we’ll go.” Steve offers. He makes his way over to a table with various drinks—mostly alcohol. Steve decides to be responsible and grabs a soda for Robin and himself. Robin seems nervous enough as is, she doesn’t need Steve’s drunk ass on top of everything.
A little while later the man who led them earlier is back and asks them to follow him once again. Muffled music sounds throughout the hall until a door opens and suddenly music is blasting.
The room is dark with a few lights scattered around casting warm light and dark shadows. The room is hazy with smoke, walls lined with brick, and Persian rugs scattered on the hardwood floor. It must be one of the rooms for performers to relax before and after the show, Steve realizes.
Loud cheering erupts as one of the band members downs a glass of red liquid in one go. Some of it runs past his stubbled chin and he wipes at it with his sleeve.
The large man clears his throat and the band members look up towards the door opening.
“Come in, come in!” A guy with blond curly hair motions. They disperse and the members seem to gravitate towards their respective guests.
“Steve!”
Eddie walks towards him with open arms and Steve feels that familiar pull again. It tugs at his mind and swirls in his gut with a sense of unfounded longing.
Before Steve can react, Eddie has him engulfed in a tight hug and Steve can feel the buttons of his denim vest dig into his chest and the skin of his cold bare arms stick to his own sweat-slick skin.
“And you must be his friend.” Eddie releases him and turns to Robin. He doesn’t hug her.  Instead, he takes her hand with a cordial bow and introduces himself as ‘Edward Munson, but call me Eddie’.
The tension in Robin’s posture seems to relax a little then. “Robin,” she says.
Eddie’s attention turns back to Steve and he eyes him up and down.
“Dig the shirt,” he says, clicking his tongue. Steve looks down at the tight fabric stretched over his chest and pats at it self-consciously.
“What did you think of the show?” Eddie looks at Robin, then at Steve.
“It—it was great. I’ve never seen anything like it,” Steve says. Next to him, he sees Robin’s eyebrow move ever so slightly. It’s a tell, but Eddie won’t know that. Robin thinks Steve’s full of shit. Is probably judging his life choices at this very second. That’s fair. Maybe Robin is just having a bad day.
“Great show,” Robin echoes, but there is little passion behind her words. She looks at her watch, and honestly, Steve thinks it’s a little rude with Eddie right in front of them, but Eddie doesn’t seem to notice. His eyes are glued to Steve. A handsome little smile growing on his face as he throws an arm around his shoulder.
“Say, we’re heading to a club after this. Afterparty kinda deal. Care to join us?”
Steve opens his mouth to answer, but Robin beats him to it.
“We have class tomorrow morning.”
We. Now that was a lie. Robin really wants to get him out of here.
“I don’t,” Steve corrects her, “An after-party sounds fun. Can’t sleep anyway—night shifts you know.” Steve shrugs.
Robin shoots him a desperate look. “Can I steal him for a moment?” She asks Eddie. He nods and releases his grip on Steve’s shoulder.
Robin leads him to one of the corners of the room. The music is loud, and the other band members are chattering with the girls. One of them has a girl on his lap as they engage in a very intimate conversation.
Once they’re out of earshot, Steve focuses his attention on Robin. “What the hell, Rob!”
“Steve, something about this is off. I swear.”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Steve says, but it doesn’t sound convincing. Robin quirks a skeptical eyebrow as she folds her arms over her chest.
The thing is, Steve doesn’t really care. This is the most fun he’s had in a good while. Life has been boring these past few months. He is just finding his footing again after Nancy dumped him. He doesn’t understand why Robin can’t let him have this.
“Steve, I mean it. I’m going home. I really do have class in the morning. If you know what’s good for you, you will come as well.”
“I’m staying, Rob. I can take care of myself.” He crosses his arms over his chest and stares her down.
Finally, Robin relents. She sighs, pulls the VIP badge from her neck, and shoves it in his hand.
“If you’re about to do something stupid, look at my name and maybe—don’t do that thing,” she says. She gives his arm an affectionate squeeze and makes her way to the door, looking back once with furrowed brows before closing it behind her.
Steve stares after her. His excitement tainted with a strange guilt as he stands there alone.
“You alright there?”
Steve turns around and sees Eddie looking at him with worried eyes.
“Yeah, I’m fine. My friend—” he looks at the door again and frowns, “she had to leave.”
“That’s too bad, man. Listen, we’re about to head out, yeah. I got us a taxi, we’re sharing with Gareth and his harem.” Eddie points a thumb over his shoulder towards the guy with curly blond hair. He’s surrounded by three girls.
Steve shoots him a smile, and when he stares into Eddie’s impossibly dark eyes, he feels all guilt wash off him and that strange sense of longing and anticipation return.
The taxi is a tight squeeze. One of the girls takes the passenger seat, which leaves Eddie, Gareth, and two additional girls in the backseat.
A blonde girl decides to share a seat with her friend by sitting on her lap and Gareth squeezes himself into the middle seat next to the girls. That only leaves one window seat.
“Not a bad idea,” Eddie says, staring at the girls, “you can sit on my lap,” he offers, sending him a little smile. Steve laughs sheepishly until he realizes Eddie meant what he said.
“Won’t you be uncomfortable? Maybe we should get another taxi—”
“It’s only ten minutes. It will be fine,” Eddie waves his hands.
Steve relents and settles himself into Eddie’s lap. They’re both guys, it isn’t weird at all. He was on the basketball team in high school. He knows guys can be close without it having to mean something. Maybe if he were a girl, he would be worried.
Somewhere in the back of his head, he hears their morning conversation echo.
‘That means nothing, Steve. Believe me.’
He shakes her off, even when he feels her VIP pass poke into his thigh from the pocket of his jeans.
The car ceiling is low, and he has to bend his neck a little with the added height of Eddie’s thighs beneath him. There’s no shifting or moving about. He sits planted firmly, full weight on Eddie’s lap. They can’t wear a seatbelt like this, which annoys him somewhat. It thrills him too, the edge of danger, however small.
Everything about tonight is strange and exciting.
The car ride is short indeed. He feels Eddie’s bones dig into the back of his legs, and Eddie holds him, arms wrapped around his waist, but it’s only to steady him. Steve tries not to move too much. He doesn’t want to make it more uncomfortable for Eddie than it has to be. It’s a tight squeeze as is, with all five of them on the backseat, and it doesn’t help that Gareth keeps messing with the girls on his side. His elbows poke into Steve’s side now and then, and it makes him shift in Eddie’s lap.
“We’re almost there,” Eddie breathes against his neck. Steve feels the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. His will is soft and pliant and he feels like he’s drunk again. He wonders how Eddie’s doing that; wonders why Eddie even invited him along when he could be surrounded by a cohort of girls as well, although he loses that train of thought quickly.
Steve stumbles out of the taxi once they arrive, and Eddie steadies him when he steps out behind him. There’s a large line in front of the building—so long that it cuts around the corner— and Steve can only imagine how long it will go on from there.
The red neon sign spells out ‘Candlelight’ and it casts a warm hue on the concrete sidewalk. It makes Eddie’s hair look a deep auburn and fire-red reflect in his black eyes.
Steve hasn’t been to many nightclubs in Indianapolis. Before, when he was dating Nancy, there was little reason to, and now that he has his job at the hotel, his nights are often otherwise preoccupied. Robin indulged him once after he and Nance broke up, but after getting hit on by several guys, she quickly decided she never wanted to do it again.
Not that it matters. Steve liked spending whatever free night he had watching movies with Robin just fine. And he would like to meet his next girlfriend organically anyway, not in nightclubs through beer goggles or whatever.
Their entourage is moving towards the double doors of the nightclub and Eddie lays a heavy hand on his lower back. He feels his fingers grace his skin where his shirt rides up; feels Eddie’s sharp nails rest on his skin like talons. It sends a shiver down his spine.
Once one of the other guys talked to the bouncer, they’re allowed in, and Steve is a little starstruck by the way they get to skip the line.
As they walk through the double doors, Steve is engulfed by light and moving bodies to music that thumps so loudly he can feel it in his bones.
A strange night indeed, he thinks as Eddie guides him in.

For our lovely @unclewaynemunson happy birthday 🎈
Wayne Munson had always loved Eddie.
He had loved Eddie before he was even born, back when his brother had called him boasting the good news. He had loved Eddie when Sara had first held his hand to her belly and he felt the little guy kicked beneath his fingertips.
He had always loved Eddie which is why he could never understand why his brother stopped. Losing Sara when Eddie was born had been hard on everyone but Eddie had made it easier.
The moment Wane laid his eyes on him he swore he'd protect that kid against anyone, he just didn't know it would be against his brother.
Wayne didn't get to see Eddie much for the first few years after he was born. With Sara gone, Eddie's father took him on the road with him. Wayne was always thinking of him, always worrying. As Eddie grew older the worries only grew, Eddie always sounded sad on the phone calls they had.
"Hi Uncle Wayne."
"Hey kiddo, where you guys at now?"
"Pa says we're in Ohio right now, does that mean we'll come see you soon?"
"Sure hope so, Eds."
They don't, they never do, always bouncing around Hawkins like it's got a curse. Wayne had thought maybe his brother's truck just never took them close, the real reason would reveal itself soon enough.
It was winter when Wayne saw Eddie for the first time since that first day in the hospital. The boy shivering in the cold despite his jacket, blue lips matching blue marks on his face.
"Mr Munson?"
"Yeah, yeah that's me," Wayne answered the woman but refusing to take his eyes off Eddie.
"I'm sorry this is so sudden but your brother has been taken into custody and there is no other family available for Edward."
Wayne has no questions regarding his brother, all that matters is Eddie.
"Yeah yeah of course I'll take him, come in son let's get you warm."
He doesn't even bid the woman goodbye, there's more pressing matters, like a hot shower and soup to make. Before any of that however, Wayne feels thin arms wrap around him.
"Thank you Uncle Wayne," Wayne hears Eddie's muffled cry and wraps his arms around him.
"No thanks necessary Eds just wish you were here earlier, would've stolen you from that hospital if I'd known."
Later over soup, Eddie's colour slowly returning, Eddie would regale the last seven years to Wayne. The missed school, the bruises, the lying phone calls. In return, Wayne told Eddie about his mom, showed him pictures and tucked him into the first bed that made Eddie feel safe.
Wayne Munson had always loved Eddie, and now he could keep his promise to protect him.

“Guys like Mox are very rare, are a very rare breed of person. That's why me and him both say some people aren't cut from our cloth. […] A kid from Ohio and a kid from New York, we both have the same morals -people say morals, I say rules- for our life and who we want around us. Mox is important because of that.”

Author's note: My first proper fic in a while so please be gentle on me. <3 There will be 2 Parts to this fic if the demand is there.
"Are we there yet?" Robin whined from the back of Steve's car, repeating the same question she'd asked ten minutes earlier. Frustration having set in about an hour ago when Eddie had fallen asleep and decided to use her shoulder as a pillow. You couldn't exactly blame her for being pissed off, the journey had felt long and drawn out and the current heat wave definitely wasn’t helping the current situation, with irritated sighs and huffs being echoed over Eddie’s loud snoring.
"Relax, Robs, we're almost there." Steve promised his friend through the rear view mirror. "Right?" He asked, squeezing your thigh for reassurance in the passenger seat beside him, begging you to say yes either way so Robin would quit bugging him. You flinched at the sudden feeling of Steve’s warm hand on your skin, shifting just enough so that his hand fell from your leg. Your uncomfortable body language hadn't gone unnoticed by him, looking at you in utter confusion before turning his focus back to the open road again.
"Oh yeah, about a half hour and we should be at the motel." You muffled, scanning the map as your friend breathed a sigh of relief behind you. You had navigated the majority of the journey, swapping with Robin forty minutes in when it became clear she couldn't understand the directions, meaning you were left with no choice but to sit up front with Steve because Eddie had already smoked a joint by himself and couldn't be trusted to guide you to your required destination safely or on time.
He had won four Metallica tickets on some radio show contest a few days prior, pleading with his friend to drive you all to Ohio in his BMW so he could see his favourite band play live for the first time. It wasn't really Steve's kind of music but who was he to turn down a night away from Hawkins?
You had been friends with Steve and the others ever since he called to Dustin's a couple of years ago while you were babysitting at the Henderson household, blissfully unaware of the danger that surrounded Hawkins at the time. Their friendship had taken you a little bit by surprise at first but you had to admit, you found their bond totally adorable. Especially, when Steve would give Dustin advice about girls and how to do his hair and how they'd protect each other and now you too, every time the world went to shit. You really didn't expect to get mixed up in a world involving supernatural creatures when you said yes to a babysitting job, that was definitely not on the advertisement but now you'd do anything for that kid and the rest of the group to keep them safe.
Steve had been drawn to you from the very beginning, not at all prepared for a pretty girl to answer the door to him while he waited for the younger boy. He immediately recognised you from high school, knowing it definitely wasn't the first time you had caught his attention.
"Oh hey, sorry, I didn't know Henderson had a sister." He muttered innocently, sliding his hands in to his pockets as you leaned against the doorframe wearing a plaid skirt and woolen cardigan.
"Pfft he wishes...I'm just his favourite babysitter or at least I'm the only one crazy enough to look after him.” You joked as Steve let out a small chuckle. “So, what are you doing here anyway ‘King Steve’? Mrs Henderson didn’t mention Dustin having a play date tonight.” You teased, folding your arms as Steve pressed his tongue to his cheek, a little taken aback by your wit. "Well, if Mrs Henderson had told me Dustin had such a pretty babysitter, I might have come play more often." He flirted, enjoying the back and forth between you, completely forgetting the reason he had called to Dustin's in the first place.
“Dude, that's my babysitter and she's awesome so don't even think about trying any shit with her!" Dustin had warned his older friend, seeing the lust in Steve's eyes as you walked away to let them talk.
Of course you liked Steve, he was gorgeous and sweet and he wasn't the stuck up asshole you'd remembered from high school. But, you knew that he was still getting over Nancy and you wouldn't be anyones rebound girl. So, you started occupying your time with Billy Hargrove to get over your little crush on Steve and it wasn't long until he became your boyfriend. You actually liked Billy, saw parts of him that no one else had but your friendship with Steve complicated things between you from the beginning. Cause, every time Billy did something to hurt you or piss you off, it was Steve you turned to for comfort, leading to fist fights between the two boys and you caught in the middle.
Billy hated that you were so close with his biggest rival, he hated that the other boy knew so much about you and your relationship and he hated knowing that your feelings for Steve went way past platonic, even if you hadn't realised it yet. So, when he eventually made you choose between your friendship with Steve and your relationship with him, Billy wasn't all that surprised when you chose Steve. Not that you ever told your friend he was the reason for the break up.
Over the next few years, you and Steve had gotten even closer, spending more time in his house than your own because he hated being there by himself and you didn't want to go home either. Your Mother had long passed away and your Father was a drunk. It was one of the many things you had in common, both of you having shitty parents and it was nice to have someone who understood how you were feeling. But lately, you had taken a step back from him, deciding to stay at Robin's house instead until you had enough money for a place of your own, because Billy Hargrove had been right all along, you were in love with your best friend and you were fucking terrified of him finding out.
It wasn’t supposed to happen, you certainly didn't want it to happen, it was so cliche that it made you physically nauseous, but thinking you had lost Steve when he disappeared under the water that night on the lake was all it took for you to realise just how much he really meant to you. Now you didn't know to act around your friend, not wanting to give him the slightest inkling of your current feelings towards him. You hated the way your stomach would flip when he'd smile at you, cheeks heating when he’d compliment you and the way you'd almost forget to breathe when he leaned in to kiss your cheek after picking you up from work, it was truly tragic. But to make matters worse, Robin had let slip that Steve was back on the dating scene again and you were just a tiny bit jealous and a little pissed off that he had failed to mention that detail to you personally when you spent so much time with him.
The sun was bright, high in the sky, heat taking over the BMW before you rolled the window down, welcoming the instant breeze as you pulled your sunglasses from the top of your head back over your eyes. Steve was immediately hypnotised by the scent of your shampoo and perfume as your hair blew in the wind. He tried to stay focused on the road in front of him but you were making it incredibly difficult in your low cut crop top and tiny denim shorts, hanging the top half of your body out the window for air. He was sure he almost drooled at the small sight of your laced bra that threatened to unveil itself if you shuffled in your seat much more.
Steve silently wondered what had been going on with you lately, you had become so distant and he was worried that he'd done something to upset you, said something stupid, but he couldn't think of anything. You didn't stay with him anymore, you flinched when he'd touch you and now, you barely even looked at him. Whatever was going on with you, he needed to find out soon, because it was driving him crazy.
"You ok over there, Dingus?" Robin teased, elbow leaning on the back of the drivers seat, catching Steve gazing at you. She was sure that you and Steve belonged together but you refused to let her know the full extent of your feelings because as much as you loved Robin, you didn't trust her not accidentally spill the beans to Steve.
“Uh yeah, m’fine.” He swallowed, relieved you hadn’t caught him staring as you rolled the window up again. He knew he shouldn't have been looking at you like that, you were his best friend for christ sake and he was sort of dating someone now, but he just couldn't help himself, not when it came to you. He never could.
“Eyes on the road, Romeo.” Robin whispered, pinching his cheek as he swotted her hand away, focusing back on the road again.
Thirty minutes later and you had arrived at the motel you’d be spending the night in, climbing in to the backseat, shaking Eddie to wake him from his slumber as Robin and Steve went to check in.
“Wake up sleeping beauty, we’re here.” You announced as he stretched out, yawning loudly.
“Oh man, why’d you wake me up, I was having such a good dream. You and Nance were giving me a—"
“I’m begging you not to finish that sentence, Munson.” You pleaded, placing a hand over his mouth.
“Hey, I’m a guy. I can’t help that I dream about my hot friends.” He defended as you got back out of the car while he followed suit.
“That doesn’t mean you have to tell me about it though.” You shuddered as he let out a laugh. “So, you finally gonna bunk up with Harrington tonight, put the rest of us out of our misery?” He grinned, pulling a little worn box out of his pocket, lighting up a cigarette.
“Nope. I’m sharing with Robin, you’re bunking with Steve.” You replied, rummaging in the trunk for your duffel bag, not really wanting to talk about Steve.
"We could swap if you wa-"
"I’m good with Robin." You interrupted, as he picked up on the irritated tone in your voice. "What's going on with you two lately?" Eddie questioned.
"Nothing." You shrugged, swinging your bag over your shoulder, Eddie looking at you, completely unconvinced by the answer you had given him. "Total bullshit."
"There's nothing going on, Eddie." You repeated.
"Did you guys finally do it or something? Is that why you aren't staying at his house anymore?" He asked as you let out a sarcastic laugh.
"No, we didn't 'do it'..….how did you even know I haven't been staying at Steve's?” You quizzed, Eddie offering you a drag of his cigarette, leaning against the Beamer. “He told me. Asked me if I knew what was going on with you, told him if he didn't know, there was no way I would."
“Rob said he’s been going on a couple of dates recently, I figured me sleeping in the next bedroom might be a bit of a mood killer." You revealed, exhaling the cigarette smoke as Eddie grinned at you. “Ah, so the issue is he's not doing you?" He joked as you rolled your eyes.
"That's not the issue, Eddie, there is no issue!" You lied, handing Eddie back what was left of his cigarette as he chuckled at your frustration.
“If you say so princess."
"So are you ever going to tell that girl how you feel or are you happy drooling at her from her a distance for the rest of your life?" Robin questioned Steve at the check in desk while he tried to shush her.
"Jesus Robin, will you stop with that shit? We're just friends, alright?" Steve declared, leaning heavily on the counter.
"No dingus, we're just friends, you don't look at your friends the way you look at her, there's a difference." She stated as Steve looked out the window, back to where you and Eddie were still talking outside in the parking lot. Seeing you two laughing outside stirred up a hint of jealousy in him because it should have been him you were laughing with, not Eddie. Steve was supposed to be your best friend and it was killing him that you were treating him like a total stranger.
"I don't even know why you're dating other chicks, you've got the perfect girl right out there." Robin pointed, as Steve let out a frustrated breath.
"m'not dating ‘other chicks’ Robin, just one ch...girl, Tracy, remember?" He asked as Robin laughed. "Oh I remember, do you? Beause it didn't seem like you did when you were mentally undressing your best friend back in the car."
"I wasn't "mentally undressing" her!"
"You totally were though." She muttered under her breath.
"Robin, I swear to god, just drop it. I'm seeing Tracy now, please, just let it go." He begged as she finally decided to ease up on her friend, seeing the annoyance on his face. "Fine, but she was a real bitch in high school, y'know?"
"You thought everyone was a bitch in high school." Steve replied unamused at her response. "Not everyone." She argued, turning her head to where you were walking in with Eddie.
"Ok, here we go, we have one room reserved under a Miss Buckley and one reserved under a Mr. Munson is that correct?" The receptionist asked.
"Yes, Ma'am." Eddie replied with a cheesy grin, winking at the girl behind the desk.
"Great, your rooms are ready now. Here's your key Mr. Munson you're in room fourteen and Miss Buckley, you're in room sixteen, enjoy your stay." She smiled as you all gathered your things to head to your residence for the night.
"Fuck, there was something really hot about the way she kept calling me Mr. Munson." Eddie smirked as you walked towards the rooms.
"She was just being polite, you pervert." You muttered, shoving your friend playfully.
"Aww don't be jealous sweetheart, you're still my number one girl." He said throwing an arm around you.
"In your dreams, Munson." You fought back.
"You were." He teased, sticking his tongue out playfully. Steve walked ahead, finally finding the room he'd be sharing with Eddie, swiping the room key, pushing the old creaky door in with his shoulder.
"Oh you gotta be fucking kidding me!" Steve cursed, opening the door as you all entered to see what he was referring to.
“What’s the prob….oh.” Eddie sighed, finally noticing the lack of a second double bed.
"Aww, this is so romantic. All you need is some candles and rose petals and you’re all set.” Robin teased, earning a glare from both guys.
"S'not funny Robin, we’re not sharing a bed, go check your room and see what you’ve got.” He requested as Robin wandered off to see if your room had the same issue.
"Shit, I'm sure I asked for two beds dude." Eddie stated rubbing his neck as the other let out an irritated breath. "You had one job Munson..."
"We've got one double bed too." Robin revealed, swinging from the doorframe unbothered. Sharing a bed wasn’t an issue for either of you, you'd done it most weekends at Steve's anyway when Robin was too drunk to go home or when you stayed at hers.
"Alright I'll go back to the front desk and see if that hot little receptionist can help us out." Eddie grinned, heading for the door but you placed a hand on his chest to hold him back.
"Easy there lover boy, the sign said "No Vacancies", it's totally sold out." You explained, hearing Steve curse behind you.
"Looks like you guys are roomies then." Robin laughed as they both shook their heads in defiance.
"No, absolutely not." Steve refused.
"Agreed." The other boy reiterated.
"Are you guys really that immature? It's just one night." You explained, taking a seat on the end of the bed.
"Have you seen the size of Harrington's dick? I don't want that thing poking at me all night!" Eddie shrieked as Steve smirked smugly. Your eyes widened at the mention of your friends package, sending them straight to his dick. Your movement hadn’t gone unnoticed by Steve who was looking at you confidently, almost enjoying the fact he had caught you staring at him.
"So what do you suggest then?" Robin quizzed, getting bored of standing around, wanting to freshen up before the concert.
"Easy, I go with one of you lovely ladies and one of you stays here with ol' big dick." He proposed, nudging his head towards Steve who seemed more than happy with that arrangement.
"No way." You refused knowing you’d end up getting stuck with Steve.
"Why not?" Steve quizzed, folding his strong arms, almost looking insulted by how quick you shot down the suggested arrangement.
Because you're sleeping with someone that's not me...
"Why should Robin and I have to switch because you two aren't man enough to share a bed for a couple of hours?" You spat, directing the question towards your best friend.
"Because we're guys! It's different for girls..." Eddie interrupted before Steve had the chance to speak.
"Afraid you'll like it?" Robin teased.
"If it's that much of a problem, why don't one of you just sleep in the car." You suggest, earning a glare from Steve. "I fucking drove us here, m'not sleepin' in the damn car!" Steve answered back as you noticed him glaring at you, quickly picking up on his pissed off tone.
"Sleep on the floor then." You muttered.
"This is ridiculous, why are we still arguing?” Steve groaned, not understanding why you were so against sharing a bed with him. You had done it before so why was now such a big deal?
“You’re the one being ridiculous! It’s just somewhere to sleep for a few hours.” You replied getting more agitated each time Steve spoke.
“Guys please…” Robin begged, sensing the tension between you both starting to boil over.
“Oh I’m the one being ridiculous? That's rich...” Steve fired back.
“What the hell is that supposed to mean, Harrington?” You questioned, raising a brow at him, completely forgetting that Robin and Eddie were watching this encounter unfold between you.
“You know exactly what it means, sweetheart.” He challenged and suddenly, you knew he wasn't talking about the sleeping arrangements anymore.
"Ok children, let's just cut the shit shall we? Robin, you and I will take the other room and leave these lovebirds alone to fuck out this sexual tension before we all lose the will to live.” Eddie grinned, grabbing his bags, leading Robin out of the room as she whispered a "sorry" to you.
“Shut the fuck up, Munson.” Steve replied, glaring at the other boy as you took a mental note to murder the metal head at a later time.
"Hey, it's not like I'm saying anything you guys don’t already know. Why don’t you just save us all some time and get it over with huh? We'll meet you in the lobby in an hour.” Eddie replied, closing the door behind him, leaving you all alone with your best friend for the first time in a long time.
“Idiot.” Steve muttered, throwing his car keys on the nightstand, throwing himself on to the bed. "This is just fucking great..." You muttered under your breath, the awkward tension between you already suffocating the room along with the smell of stale cigarette smoke that seemed to be attached to all of the soft furnishings. You could feel Steve's eyes on you while you grabbed your bag and headed for the bathroom, knowing you needed to get away from him and give each other some much needed space after the heated exchange.
"Need to use the bathroom before I get ready?" You questioned, a hand resting on your hip as Steve barely acknowledged you, grabbing the remote to turn on the tv.
"Nope."
"Cool." You whispered, closing the door behind you, quickly turning on the shower so you could finally let out the tears you'd been trying desperately to hold back for so long.
You didn't know how to make things right with Steve. You thought you were protecting your friendship with him by keeping him at a distance until your feelings disappeared, but it seemed all you were really doing was making things much worse between you.

THE HOPE OF IT ALL
G 💙 750 words 💙 '92 US Election 💙 on AO3
💙❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙
As the 1992 election results started to roll in, The Party were glued to the tv in Steve and Eddie's apartment.
It had been a long time since they'd had a Democrat come this close to winning the Presidency. They all lived for too long under Reagan and then George H W Bush and now they were all watching to see if Bill Clinton could keep Bush from getting a second term.
"Do we really think he's gonna-"
"Shhhh!," Dustin cuts Robin off, "What did I say about jinxing this! No. Predicting!"
Robin mimed zipping her lips closed while she pulled her foot onto the couch. She gave a quick kick that sent him flailing onto the floor.
"Hey! I'm trying to win you an election here and that's how you act! Hmph! And not even a thank you for my effort!"
Robin pointed at her zipped together lips and shrugged faux sadly.
"Ok!," Steve stood up, stopping the inevitable slap fight, "I'm making more popcorn. Who needs another pop?"
Everyone raised their hands as Steve stepped gingerly through and around everyone sprawled on the living room floor. Eddie met his eyes and got up to follow him into the kitchen.
While they hoped it'd be a shut out (Clinton's popularity amongst both Dems and some Republicans was pretty high) they wouldn't know for sure until all the polls closed and the numbers came in.
And until then, they tried not to let the worry gnaw through their stomachs.
They were silent as Steve unwrapped bags of popcorn to put in the microwave and Eddie grabbed cans from the fridge.
Eddie lined the pops up on the bar top between the kitchen and living room and spoke through the opening, "Hey Will, can you hand these out?"
He waited to see Will and El standing to grab them before he turned back to Steve. He stepped up to Steve's back and wrapped his arms around him.
"Don't tell Dustin I said so," he said lowly against Steve's shoulder, "but Clinton's gonna win."
He drags his mouth along Steve's shoulder and mutters into hair, "He's gotta win. We can't do four more years of Bush. Four more years of him not caring about people, our friends, dying."
Steve emptied the last popcorn bag into a bowl and turned in Eddie's arms and hugged him close.
"We're not jinxing," he whispered back, "we're hoping. How can we get change without hope?"
They held each other a few more minutes until Robin came in. She passed the bowls of popcorn across the counter to Lucas and turned back to Steve and Eddie.
She wrapped her arms around herself and stared at the ceiling above their heads, "We're gonna get this. It's gonna happen. And things are gonna get better. They have to. I just can't get this churning dread out of my stomach. Cause what if-"
Before she could put that thought out there, they pulled her into their hug and held her tight. She knew that no matter what happened, they'd have each other, but it was still terrifying. That what-if.
With one last deep breath and hard look between the three, they smoothed their expressions to hide their anxiety and rejoined the kids.
Except. It was finally 8:30 and hope was on the rise. As were the shouts and, yes, predictions getting yelled around the living room.
Because the midwest was going blue. State by state: Michigan, Ohio, and then their new home, Illinois. Blue!
Even southern states were going blue, which none of them could believe. First Georgia and then Tennessee!
Some states were still going to Bush, of course. Big ones like Florida and Texas.
Steve handed $5 over to Eddie when their home state of Indiana stayed red.
But then at 9.30, the tentative hope everyone held tightly to their chests exploded into cheers and whoops when California and Pennsylvania went to Clinton.
"WE WON!", the kids screamed while they jumped up and down.
Steve and Eddie kissed hard and pulled each other into a tight hug.
Robin jumped on top of them from the couch, "I told you! I told you we'd win! Ha!"
The phone on the wall immediately started ringing. Steve pulled away and pushed his way through the wall of bodies to reach it.
Through the space between the kids' heads, Eddie saw Steve answer the phone grinning so hard his eyes did that scrunchy thing he loved so much.
In the instant, he was filled with so much love.
For Steve.
For his friends, here and gone.
For Wayne, who he needed to call if that wasn't him on the phone already.
And even, honestly, surprisingly for all his fellow citizens who came together to bring them this hope and possibility of a better future.
